Review by Escape Artist Reviews
After smashing through Pharaoh’s Tomb, our team had about 45 minutes between games. Luckily, the crew at Scram were absolute legends and got us into The Witch’s Curse within 15–20 minutes. This huge win and seriously appreciated.

This was our final room at the Church Street venue, and maybe we went in a little overconfident. We didn’t make it out in time (for shame), but our GM graciously gave us a little extra to finish the final steps so we could still savour that end-of-room satisfaction.

Room & Difficulty
The Witch’s Curse is easily the best-looking room at Church Street. The theming is strong, atmospheric, and loaded with great details. It also leans to the harder side. With a team of 3 we hit around 85–90% completion before time ran out.

For this one, 3–5 players feels like the sweet spot.

Puzzles & Flow
Every puzzle felt like it belonged in the world. The magic-themed mechanisms were a nice touch, no traditional padlocks here, just clever hidden systems that made actions feel “magical.”

Puzzle logic was solid, nothing unfair, though we definitely recognised a few concepts we’ve seen in other witch/magic-themed rooms.

No jump scares at all, but the space is darker than Scram’s other rooms. Adults will love it, and kids who are okay with darker settings should be fine too.

Overall Experience
A great room, strong theming, challenging puzzles, and classic Scram polish. It didn’t have a massive “wow” moment, but it was absolutely enjoyable from start to finish.

We wrapped up the night with a quick walk to Milky Lane to dissect where we went wrong (and how close we were!) over burgers — honestly the perfect ending to a night of puzzles, magic, and laughs with good mates.

Scram Escape Rooms - The Pharaoh's Tomb

Date:
 16/11/2025

Company Name: Scram Escape Rooms

Room: The Pharaoh's Tomb

Cost: $60 per person(Team of 3) $180 Flat Rate Sunday

Time Allowed: 60 Minutes

Website Link: https://www.scramescaperooms.com.au/church-street

Location: level 1/240 Church St, Parramatta NSW 2150

Best Parking: Park in the Eat Street Carpark - 4 minute walk to the venue.

Succeeded: Yes, approximately 13 minutes remaining

Room Description:

There are many treasures and artefacts to uncover in the ancient tombs of Egypt. The most impressive treasures belonged to the Pharaoh. Can you outsmart the Ancient Egyptian's tricks to steal their treasures?

Comments:

Our dynamic team of three headed out to Parramatta to take on the last of our remaining rooms at Scram’s Church Street location. We managed to snag a street park less than 50 metres from the venue (a small miracle considering how close we were cutting it on time). If you’re not as lucky, the Eat Street car park is only about a five-minute walk and definitely your best bet.

First up for the day was Pharaoh’s Tomb. As always with Scram, the immersion kicks in the moment you step through the door: neon signage, dim lighting, and posters teasing the adventures that await. The vibe is instantly fun, and we were greeted by the always-friendly staff who keep the energy high before you’ve even started.

Pharaoh’s Tomb was one of the last rooms for us to tick off at Church Street, and while smaller than the average modern escape room (just two spaces in total), it still had that distinct Scram charm. True to their usual style, there were hardly any traditional locks to be found which is a welcome change for anyone who likes variety. We did have a small hiccup at the start when our intro didn’t play (a minor tech glitch), but our gamesmaster was quick to jump in and sort it out.

The overall theming was solid, with puzzles that made sense within the story and fit the Egyptian setting nicely. That said, you can tell the room’s been around for a while. Some props were looking a little tired and could use a bit of a refresh. Difficulty-wise, I’d put it squarely at medium: a comfortable challenge for casual players or families, but probably not going to stump seasoned enthusiasts. Lighting was on the dimmer side to suit the theme, but there were no jump scares or moments that would unsettle younger players.

We did have one funny moment where we somehow completely fluked a puzzle solution that had us stumped. Thankfully, our gamesmaster explained afterward how it was supposed to work and honestly seemed just as surprised as we were that our method somehow worked!

In the end, we escaped with around 13 minutes to spare. Not a record-breaking run, but finishing without hints felt like a satisfying win for our trusty team of three.

All in all, Pharaoh’s Tomb might be one of Scram’s older rooms, but it still delivers that fun, accessible experience that makes them such a reliable name in Sydney’s escape room scene. It’s a great pick for families, newer players, or anyone after a light-hearted adventure with a dash of ancient mystery.

Scram Escape Rooms - Plagued

Date Played:
 24/08/25

Company Name: Scram Escape Rooms

Room: Plagued

Cost:  $60 per person (Team of 3, Sunday rate)

Time Allowed: 60 Minutes

Website Link: https://www.scramescaperooms.com.au/penrith

Location: Level 1/535 High St, Penrith NSW 2750

Best Parking: Ample street parking all around the venue - I personally went into Westfields

Succeeded: Yes, with a heart racing 10 seconds or less on the clock

Room Description:

The year is 1666, and the Black Death is sweeping through the village.

Your family has fallen ill, and your home has been marked with a red cross - sealed shut by the authorities. No one enters. No one leaves.

But whispers tell of a cure— perhaps hidden within an apothecary shoppe. It may be your only chance to save your family.

Will you find the cure in time, or does a far worse fate await?

Comments:

The night started off with a cheeky little Nando’s session with the boys as we sat around discussing and eagerly looking forward to Scram’s newest room, Plagued. Scram Penrith is really well-situated, with plenty of food options nearby, so do yourself a favour and make a night of it with dinner included — whether you’re heading to Scram or even our friends at Narrow Escape Rooms just down the road.

It had been a minute since my last visit to Scram Penrith (The Sorcerer’s Secret was the first—which you can check out our review here), but Plagued was well worth the return. Our Gamesmaster Jess (who also designed the room), greeted us with a friendly smile, and that warmth carried through the whole experience.

The set design is absolutely beautiful. Everything looks on point and nothing feels out of place. The theming creates a suspenseful tone where you’re always waiting for something to jump out (and maybe it does…). The dim lighting adds to the tension without ever tipping into frustration, and there’s plenty to solve at any given time so nobody feels left out.

The puzzles are a mix of hunt-and-seek fun alongside some cleverly hidden high-tech elements. That combination gave the room a magical and eerie vibe that felt fresh and unique. Everything tied neatly into the theme, which really heightened the immersion.

Difficulty-wise, I’d rate it Hard-Medium, with the tension adding to the sense of urgency. With three of us, we scraped out with only a few seconds left on the clock, using a couple of hints to push through some trickier moments. That close finish made the experience even more rewarding, and we loved how it all wrapped up.

Afterward, we stuck around for a chat with Jess about Scram’s rooms and what’s ahead. Without spoiling anything, the future sounds very exciting. Scram Penrith — like all of their venues — remains one of our favourites, and we’ll keep coming back as long as they keep delivering like this.

Overall: 6.20/10

Room Description:
You and your team are on a road trip when a terrible storm hits. You decide to find accommodation for the night, but only one bed and breakfast is available in the area.
It is an unusual venue and the host makes it very clear that you're not to go exploring past any red doors.

But what do you do... you go exploring... And this bed and breakfast makes it very hard to go back.

Comments:
Motel of Madness was the second and final room our usual team, minus one member, tackled at the Scram Venue in Macquarie Park. This also marked the team's 29th room and my 33rd overall. As previously mentioned in our review of Murder in the Mob, this room notably deviated from the typical Scram-style rooms that we have grown to appreciate.

Throughout our experience in Motel of Madness, we found a noticeable absence of a strong, cohesive story. We were simply advised, "Don't go through the red door," with little consequence attached. The puzzles felt somewhat disjointed, requiring us to backtrack through rooms we had already explored, but they definitely pushed us to think more deeply than usual. While the set design was aesthetically pleasing and captured the desired vibe, the lack of a consistent narrative made it challenging to fully immerse ourselves in the experience.

Fortunately, we had the same Gamesmaster as earlier in the day, ensuring we were in capable hands. However, we did encounter a slight hiccup towards the end. Despite completing the majority of puzzles, we found ourselves missing one crucial item needed to escape. Our Gamesmaster handled the situation professionally, offering assistance and even providing us with a 10% discount voucher for our next Scram visit.

Overall, Motel of Madness ranked as our least favourite of the three rooms at the Macquarie venue. Nevertheless, our group still appreciated the enjoyable time and hospitality provided by Scram.

After your escape, you realise that you've dropped your glove, which could lead police straight to you! Go back, get the evidence, get out.

Comments:
Our team, minus one member, lined up for our remaining two rooms at Scram's Macquarie Branch. After being thoroughly impressed with our earlier encounter of The Witching Hour and considering Scram's solid reputation for providing high-quality rooms, we were beyond excited.

Our understanding was that Murder in the Mob was a room inherited from the previously owned Parapark and had undergone some tweaking. Nevertheless, it proved to be a solid room. The theming was spot on, maintaining a clear story as we progressed through the room, and the puzzles mostly aligned with the overarching theme. There was one particular puzzle that posed a challenge, requiring someone fairly tall or flexible on the team to navigate effectively. With Josh's contortion skills, we eventually managed to crack it. This puzzle was the only one we needed a hint for, but with the three of us working together, we successfully escaped with about 8 minutes left on the clock.

Despite the enjoyable experience, there was a subtle feeling that Murder in the Mob didn't quite have the distinctive "Scram-like" essence, which may be difficult to articulate but could be understood by those who have completed numerous rooms across Scram's venues, particularly at Church Street and Penrith. Our Gamesmaster added to the fun and welcoming atmosphere, and the pre-room lobby provided ample space and comfort. All in all, Murder in the Mob proved to be another enjoyable addition to Scram's repertoire.

Room Description:

Comments:
Returning to Scram's Church Street location, we took on Underland with a slightly different team this time, including a couple of newcomers to the escape room scene (each with fewer than five rooms under their belt). Despite the change, we had a blast navigating this room, finding that everything flowed seamlessly within the space.

Primarily featuring traditional lock-and-key mechanisms, Underland is an excellent choice for those new to the hobby. However, I did encounter a few minor issues. Some of the locks had worn-off lettering or numbers, which, combined with the ambient lighting, made them a bit difficult to read. Additionally, one of the final puzzles didn't seem to work as intended, but we managed to solve it with perseverance and some extra time.

Nevertheless, Underland was an enjoyable experience overall, and I would certainly recommend it to newcomers. As always, Scram continues to uphold its reputation for producing high-quality rooms.

You have one hour to secure the artefacts before the dark wizards begin their search!

Comments:
The Sorcerer's Secret at the new Penrith venue marked my 25th escape room experience and the 22nd for our group, and it was truly amazing. As expected from Scram, especially their new venues, the quality was top-notch. The pre-room area was fresh and modern, and the actual room had a beautiful aesthetic—another excellent production by Scram.

The theming and immersion were spot on, with a good mix of lock, key, and high-tech puzzles. The room's quality was almost perfect, as expected from a new establishment. Our Gamesmaster was enthusiastic and hosted us well, although we did have a minor issue with them attempting to steer us in the right direction when we were already cruising with 20 minutes on the clock. Despite this, we managed to escape with 12 minutes remaining and unanimously agreed that we had a lot of fun.

Tonight's room also brought us another fortunate moment of pure hilarity when we discovered Luke's shortcomings with the English language are almost on par with Simon's issues with mathematics.

We're eagerly anticipating the release of a new room from the same branch at Scram!

Comments:
My inaugural visit to the O'Connell Street branch at Scram was a delightful experience, largely thanks to the welcoming host and gamesmaster, Annie. Simon and I were taking this room on with my partner and my brother instead of our usual team of four but right from the start, Annie's exceptional service stood out. Despite arriving with one less person than our booking, she skilfully navigated the situation, ensuring we only paid for the attendees present – a thoughtful gesture considering typical company terms and conditions.

Moving on to the room itself, it lived up to its pre-description, delivering a genuine sense of entrapment. The innovative setup, sparked intriguing brainstorming sessions early on. The room's mechanics were particularly noteworthy, featuring multiple electro-magnets that seamlessly activated when puzzles were solved, revealing hidden elements.

However, we encountered a brief hiccup in the middle of the experience. Due to a mistaken use of a prop, we unintentionally skipped a few puzzles, disrupting the intended sequence of events. With the guidance of our fantastic gamesmaster and some thoughtful deliberation, we were promptly redirected back on course. The room boasted well-timed jump scares, contributing to its dark and eerie ambiance.

Despite a minor time extension due to our detour, we emerged victorious. Eager to explore more, we plan to return to tackle the other two rooms at this venue.

Congratulations! You're getting married! Let's celebrate with a wild night out with friends before the big day.

Oh no. What happened last night?

Where are you?
Where is your phone?
Where is your wallet?
Where is the... ring?!

Comments:
Kyle:
The Hangover immerses you in a unique ambiance. Despite venturing through numerous spine-chilling escape rooms, this one stands out as the first and only labeled as an 'adults only room' sans any jump scares. It radiates a playful and mischievous energy, making our experience thoroughly enjoyable.

This escape room exudes a sly charm, paying homage to the film of the same name. It cleverly incorporates elements reminiscent of waking up after a wild night out. While some puzzles maintain a conventional tone, others explicitly signal that this is an exclusive 18+ adventure. The room offers a delightful mix of puzzles, ranging from traditional lock-and-key challenges (with keys ingeniously hidden in unique spots) to more sophisticated tech puzzles, seamlessly integrated as always. The inclusion of hunt-and-seek elements adds an appreciated layer of fun. The puzzles align seamlessly with the space, contributing cohesively to the storyline.

Unfortunately, success eluded us this time around. Entering the room with three instead of our usual four members certainly played its part. However, after the Gamesmaster walked us through the remaining challenges, we realized we had come eerily close to success. Considering the sheer amount of content in this beautifully crafted room, the experience was still fulfilling.

Simon: This room, as expected, had such a party vibe to it and was quite fun. Based on the movie "The Hangover" it certainly lived up to it's 18+ age rating. It was very lewd but in a tasteful and fun way. Despite the party vibe, the puzzles were challenging and did take a fair effort to solve. With that said, readers, once again I chose meth instead of math to help us escape this room ... it did not work! The lesson is: Don't take drugs kids ... sell them instead and make money! I'm just kidding, but I need to stay away from maths, it always fails me in escape rooms. There was a nice integration of the ambient music with the theme of the room. Very well done from Scram Escape Rooms.

Do you want friendly or do you want scary?

You choose!

The Nightmare version is creepy, uneasy and full of cold atmosphere. It's the same game, but different! You must get back the gift that was taken from a monster in your dreams.

Comments:
Kyle:
Toy Rescue from Scram on Church Street was the second room we undertook on the 29th, following a lunch break to calm our nerves after completing F.E.A.R Desensitized to whatever could come next after F.E.A.R, I have to say even the Nightmare version of Toy Rescue was a welcome calm. It did have creepy undertones as stated in the room's description, but there were no jump scares, which I was definitely thankful for. The boys breezed through this room once we got into the right headspace, finishing with about 10-15 minutes left on the clock. It was a fairly easy and fun room that made a lot of sense, had its share of enjoyable puzzles, and I feel like a little kid had come out in all of us as we navigated our way through this room.

Simon: Despite this room being labelled a "Nightmare Version" there was quite a wholesome vibe to this room. The rooms were very colourful and well designed. Every puzzle had a really 'fun' feel to it! I would recommend this room for all ages and levels of experience as it is more of a relaxed feel and you can really enjoy doing the puzzles as there is a very fun element to all of the puzzles. It wasn't the most difficult room to finish but we certainly appreciated the change of pace.

Comments:
Kyle:
Holy Shit. That's all I could muster up in a certain section of this room. Scram produced a banger here, and I have to say, even with Simon and Josh having completed this room previously and Simon predicting nearly every jump scare that was coming (and even some that weren't coming!), this legitimately terrified me. We thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality that Scram has to offer at their Parramatta branch; everything looks professional and well-done. We also loved the touch of taking a photo in the room that we had just completed. Prior to the room, I did not know you could consult with your Games Master and request to dial up the 'scare' factor or tone it right down. I would imagine we were somewhere in the middle, and even still, this holds a very close second on the shit-my-pants scale. I've got Intruders from Mission at #1 and Sacrifice at #3. The room was fantastic, immersion amazing, and the locks and/or puzzles made sense with the theme of the room—even if I was incapacitated for a chunk of the time in the room due to F.E.A.R!

Simon: This room was so good that I have now done it twice! When I completed this room the first time, it was only the second escape room I had ever done. I expected this room to be scary but did not expect it to be that scary! The whole time I had completely forgotten I had a life outside of the escape room and felt as though I was going to have to fight for mine in there. It was so immersive, with every single puzzle challenging and relevant. Despite only being my second escape room, this remains number 1 on my favourites list. Doing it second time around took nothing away from my intial experience, I was still just as terrified. I will say there is a different feel to doing an escape room which is scary. I know for myself when I am scared, it gets the adrenaline pumping which actually helps me with solving puzzles as I feel even more focussed and determined to solve them. Every escape room enthusiast needs to do this room. Also pro tip: Don't wear thongs/flip-flops in this room, your other teammates may trod on your feet!

In an abandoned house the witching hour has triggered a series of frightening phenomena. Doors are opening by themselves, the floorboards are creaking, knocking can be heard beyond the walls.

Can you banish the dark entity or will you be tormented forever?

Comments:
Kyle:
Our journey with Scram Escape Rooms began in Parramatta, prompting our curiosity to explore The Witching Hour at their new location in Macquarie Park. The room cast a captivatingly creepy ambiance, each space veiled in darkness. The puzzles, laden with satanic ritual undertones, contributed to an interactive and immersive experience. Surmounting the room's difficulty and intricate puzzles, we emerged victorious with nearly 15 minutes to spare—a true testament to our collective problem-solving prowess and the need for some serious "big brain" thinking.
Post The Witching Hour adventure, a lingering positive vibe enveloped us. The experience was seamlessly enhanced by the convenience of ample on-site parking, requiring minimal pre-planning on our part. Our escapade culminated in a delightful visit to Kong's BBQ for an enjoyable Korean BBQ experience, adding an extra layer of satisfaction to our outing. Scram Escape Rooms, true to their reputation, consistently delivers high-quality rooms, making them a wholehearted recommendation for anyone in search of an engaging and immersive escape room experience.

Josh: Our visit to Scram Escape Rooms at Macquarie Park made this the first repeated company we have used as a group. This is not because they are the most local to us but we genuinely always have a great time in their rooms. They are well thought out, themed really well and have great puzzles. The Witching Hour was no exception to this, we had a fantastic time and it was one of our best performances as a group to date. We finished this room with about 15 minutes to spare but never felt like we really rushed through it. Having personally previously done F.E.A.R  at Scram Parramatta and Wizards Quest at Escape Hunt, I would describe this room as an in between. It has magical elements but they are more satanic than Wizards Quest while not being as scary as F.E.A.R. A couple of standout moments for me was the "step up" puzzle that you do which is a little creepy as you can't fit more than one or two people up there. The other was the tunnel that you need to crawl through at one point which is always a cool way to transition between rooms. Kyle on the other hand maintained his dignity and refused to crawl with us instead opting for us to open the door from the inside for him. A really enjoyable room overall, definitely not in my top 5 but a lot of fun! Also, as the boys have mentioned if you go try the Korean BBQ around the corner.
The Simon WTF are you doing moment of the Game: During our game we heard a cry out (Possibly of enjoyment?) from Simon. It appears as though the Satanic Witch had prodded him in the anus with a piece of wood. Simon claims that one of the boys did this but there is no evidence.

Simon: We had done escape rooms with Scram Escape Rooms previously at their Parramatta locations which have always equated to a great outing. This lead us to do The Witching Hour at Scram's new location at Macquarie Park. The setting and the tone for this room was a very creepy vibe and I remember each of the rooms being really dark. The puzzles had a more satanic ritual feel to them which makes it super interactive. This was a room in which we had great success completing it with nearly 15 minutes left on the timer. We blitzed this room! We were able to solve the puzzles with great effect. This is not to say that the room wasn't difficult or that the puzzles weren't challenging, the puzzles were certainly complex and it was big brain time! I think it was more of a reflection of our experience with successfully completing past escape rooms which put us in good stead. Moreover, all of the puzzles had contributed greatly to the overall setting and creepy vibe of the room. Listen ... the guys may tell you that they don't remember much in terms of the specific events and puzzles we needed to solve. However, I remember a distinct moment where I was probed anally with a piece of wood, which I can assure readers is NOT part of the room or a required activity. The boys claim "iT wAs tHe WitCh", but I know they were just channelling their inner witch. To this day, I am still trying to find out which group member did it! Shout out to Kong's BBQ, very close to the escape room location and a great feed after an hour of being haunted by a witch! Omg I wear that blue flannel and white shirt combination too much!
